Embiid, Swaggy P, DJ to Headline All-Star Saturday
Last night, NBA fans received yet another exciting announcement in regards to the fast-approaching All-Star Weekend live from the ‘Big Easy’ in Louisiana. With the Rookie-Sophomore and All-Star rosters set, all that was left was to announce the participants in Saturday night’s festivities. On Thursday night, the NBA did just that.
Starting with the three-point shootout, Klay Thompson will defend his 2016 crown against a field that will be composed of Eric Gordon, Nick Young (better known as ‘Swaggy P’), Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving, Wesley Matthews, C.J. McCollum, and Steph Curry’s replacement – Kyle Lowry.
The NBA will also continue their big men vs. little men concept. While reigning champ Karl-Anthony Towns will not participate, the big men will be well represented with Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, Kristaps Porzingis, and DeMarcus Cousins. Meanwhile Devin Booker, Isaiah Thomas, Gordon Hayward, and John Wall will round out the competition.
Lastly in the main event of the evening, Zach LaVine will unfortunately not be gunning for the three-peat, but Aaron Gordon will be back under the Slam Dunk Contest spotlight. He will be going against the first-time All-Star DeAndre Jordan, Glenn Robinson III, and some dude named Derrick Jones, Jr. Similar to a kid who goes into an exam without studying, Jones has a grand total of zero career NBA dunks.
To those questioning Jones’ inclusion in this dunk contest, take a look at this:
