Paul Pierce Passes Havlicek on NBA All-Time Scoring List
Yes, Paul Pierce is still around.
The 39-year old, Hall of Fame-bound veteran doesn’t see much game action anymore, but he saw just enough playing time on Monday night to further etch his name in NBA history. As the Los Angeles Clippers took on the Houston Rockets, the forward logged in 10-points on 4-of-5 shooting in just seven minutes with the most important of baskets coming in bizarre fashion over Rockets’ Troy Williams.
With the bucket, Pierce passed another Celtic great John Havlicek for 15th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. With apologies to Shaquille O’Neal who had a legendary career with the Celtics, there is no Celtic legend who has scored more points in their career than Pierce.
“What guy at 54-years old can go into a game and sit that long and just start scoring?” Head Coach Doc Rivers joked after the Clippers 50th win. “That was impressive.”
Paul Pierce will play his final regular season game on Wednesday when the Clips take on the Sacramento Kings on their home floor in the Staples Center.
