Ball, Lakers to Meet Blazers in NBA Summer League Finals

The Summer League Finals are set and two 5-2 clubs will meet on Monday night.

Led by Lonzo Ball, the Los Angeles Lakers enter the contest fresh off a big win against Dennis Smith Jr. and the Dallas Mavericks. They will take on the Portland Trailblazers, a surprising finalist considering their lack of big name prospects.

While the Lakers lost the services of Brandon Ingram early in Summer League, they received a huge boost from rookie Kyle Kuzma, who may have been one of the biggest surprises of the summer to this point. Playing over 30-minutes a game, Kuzma has averaged just under 20-points on 47% shooting, including 39.4% from long range. The stretch-four has also been grabbing down six-boards per game.

Despite defeating the Mavs, the victory proved costly as Ball suffered a calf injury. It is currently unknown if the point guard will play tonight, or if the Lakers will just choose to play it safe.

Meanwhile, the Blazers have been led by rookie big man, Caleb Swanigan, Jarnell Stokes and point guard Jake Layman, all of whom helped Portland reach this point.

Today at 10:00pm, something will have to give. Will the young, talented Lakers lead Los Angeles to a Summer League championship? Or will it be the Blazers who upset Lonzo Ball under the Las Vegas bright lights?
