Floyd Mayweather Hopes to Own NBA Team in the Future
The payout of boxer’s Floyd Mayweather’s highly anticipated super-fight with UFC superstar Connor McGregor may be going towards a specific cause as ‘Money’ made it be known that he plans to own an NBA team in the future.
Well known for gambling on sports, the 49-0 boxer says he plans to drop that habit as soon as he purchases an NBA team.
“As soon as a I get an NBA team, I’m going to stop betting. I’m [walking] away from betting,” Mayweather told ESPN two weeks before he squares off against McGregor. “You can’t bet when you own an NBA team so I look forward to getting an NBA team in the future. So once I get an NBA team, I’m going to no longer bet.”
According to Forbes, Mayweather’s net worth is estimated at $340-million, but may surpass $1-billion according to Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes, more than enough to bid on an NBA team. The New Orleans Pelicans are currently the cheapest team in the NBA, valued at $750-million.
When asked if he knows which team he would prefer, ‘Money’ replied: “I don’t know where the team is going to be, but I look forward to having a team someday.”
If there was ever a thought that Mayweather would enjoy retirement quietly, you are most definitely wrong.
