Tanking in the NBA May Soon Become a Thing of the Past
Careful tankers, the league is cracking down on you in a cruel way.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA is “aggressively pursuing draft lottery reform” in an effort to erase tanking. The notion can even be voted into legislation very shortly, stalling the plans of teams with hopes of acquiring a top pick for the next number of years.
Over the past number of years, Commissioner Adam Silver has been a strong advocate against tanking. Luckily for teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, they have acquired three young stars through this tanking process, but unfortunately for franchises hoping to follow the Sixers’ blueprint, things may not be this easy ever again.
While there are no indications that the 2018 draft may introduce a new lottery method, it must be said that the days of tanking may soon be over.
