Is Head Coach Luke Walton Losing the Los Angeles Lakers’ Trust?
“You can see they’re not playing for Luke [Walton] no more,” Said the always entertaining LaVar Ball in his usual eloquent manner. “Luke doesn’t have control of the team no more. They don’t want to play for him.”
Maybe Ball was right. Maybe the Los Angeles Lakers truly do not have head coach Walton’s back?
Over the past few weeks, Ball has grown heavily vocal on the topic of the Lakers young coach, claiming that his teammates have lost trust in him and that Walton is not the answer for the organization. While coaches and players around the league have spoken out about Ball’s lack of a filter, the Lakers brass has remained oddly quiet.
No word from general manager Rob Pelinka. Not a peep from President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson.
And really, all it takes is a simple statement to not only die down all the rumours and backlash, but more important to show support for the team’s bench boss.
Up to this point – nothing.
“Whatever you want to say about LaVar Ball, he is most doubt the fact that the Lakers do not support Luke Walton and that is now crystal clear,” said NBA analyst Brian Windhorst. “It has been revealed here that they do not have unconditional support for Luke.”
Apparently rumour has it, the Lakers may already be looking towards making a change in the very near future. With LeBron James free agent decision looming large this summer, the Lakers may be looking at the recently fired David Fizdale, who was the assistant in James’ time with the Miami Heat and has consistently shown support for his former coach.
Of course these are all simply just rumours, but it seems like LaVar has single-handedly placed Walton on the hot seat and as the pressure continues to mount and the Laker losses continue to build up, it is only a matter of time until the Lakers come to a final decision.
