Raptors’ Coach Dwane Casey Named All-Star Game Head Coach
After a blow out win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night, Dwane Casey and his coaching staff earned their first shot to coach Team LeBron in the 2018 All-Star Game.
“It’s an honour, but mainly for the organization,” Casey said post-game. “That’s what it’s about, it’s for the organization.”
With Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens ineligible to coach this season due to being selected last year, Casey locked in his spot in this year’s dance as the Raptors clinched the best record in the Eastern Conference through games played on February 4 with a 33-15 mark. Ironically enough, Casey will coach against his two All-Stars DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry who were selected by Team Stephen during the All-Star draft.
“What we’re trying to do here in Toronto (is) something special to talk about for a weekend. And to put a light on our program and see what we’re doing is the most important thing,” said a humbled Coach Casey. “Again, it’s also for the players, they’ve done something to this point, we’re only at the halfway point, we still got a lot of basketball to be played and we’re not going to lose our eye of our goal going forward to the end of the season, but it’s an honour for the program.”
Casey is the longest-tenured and winningest coach in Raptors franchise history with a 294-230 mark.
