Start of a Bromance

DeRozan Talks About Start of Bromance with Lowry with ESPN

“My first year with Kyle [Lowry], me and Kyle didn’t say a word to one another, we didn’t speak,” Said DeMar DeRozan in his interview with Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Can’t you tell this is the start to one of the most heart-warming bromances in sports?

“I don’t think I’ve ever said this publicly but he will tell you. My first year with Kyle, me and Kyle didn’t say a word to one another, we didn’t speak,” DeRozan told Wojnarowski in an exclusive interview. “We didn’t have a conversation, we didn’t hang out, we didn’t go eat, we didn’t sit next to each another. Nothing. I didn’t have his phone number. Nothing.”

Nearly six years later, the two have become simply inseparable. According to DeRozan, early on Lowry held a distance from his new Raptor teammates upon joining the team in 2012, believing that he would be traded shortly. Following the Rudy Gay trade and rumours of a potential Lowry trade to the New York Knicks, DeRozan decided to break the silence.

“If you get traded, I’m going to ask for a trade too,” DeRozan recalled telling his backcourt mate. “That whole season, the edge that we were playing with was incredible. It made it fun. It was a moment of us really standing tall and really fighting through all the adversity.”

As the bromance continued to grow, the Raptors continued to improve, transitioning into contenders. I’m pretty certain, the Lowry trade debacle concluding without any trade was the best thing to happen to the Raptors in quite some time.
