DeRozan, Curry Named Kia NBA Players of the Month for January
Once again, the Toronto Raptors put together an impressive month with a 10-5 record, and now sit just two games back of the first place Boston Celtics. Not surprisingly, DeRozan led the Raptors charge, ranked second in the conference in scoring at 25.3-points per game, adding 5.9-assist over the past month. The Kid from Compton scored at least 30-points in four of the team’s 15 January games, which included a franchise-record 52-points in an overtime shootout with the Milwaukee Bucks to start the new year. The 5.9-assists is also his highest assist average for any month in his entire nine-year NBA career.
Meanwhile, over in the Western Conference, Stephen Curry led a 10-2 Warriors team while leading the league with 29.5-points for the month, adding 6.7-assists and 5.1-rebounds to his January stat line. The game’s best shooter could barely miss a shot during the month, shooting 51.4% from the field and an outrageous, 46.3% from long range.
As the calendar turned, it was DeRozan and Curry who set the gold standard for the month of January.
