UConn Huskies Fire Head Coach Kevin Ollie, Amid NCAA Probe

After retiring from the NBA, Kevin Ollie attempted to transition into coaching – a transition that looked nearly seamless.

Very quickly, he rose up the ranks, taking over the head coaching job of the UConn Huskies, leading the school to a National Title win in 2014. Just a few years later, Ollie sees himself out of the job as the University of Connecticut has opted to part ways with their young coach citing NCAA rule violations.

This brother has been one of the hardest working men that I've ever met in my life. He set an incredible example for me the very first day I set foot on campus my freshman year. He has continued to be an example to me and the many young men that he has had the opportunity to coach over the years. He has played with many great players in the NBA! He ultimately defied all odds and carved out a successful 13 year career in the NBA. He led our beloved UConn Huskies to an NCAA championship in 2014 as a coach. I'm proud of who Kevin is and what he has done in his career. He will always be my brother no matter what! “It is unfortunate that this decision became necessary,” athletic director David Benedict said in a statement. “As with all of our programs, we hold men’s basketball to the highest standards. We will begin a national search immediately to identify our next head coach.”

The University announced back in January, that they were a subject of an NCAA investigation, with reported indicating the basketball coaching staff may have tampered with the NCAA’s recruitment rules.
