After Game 1 Blow Out, Kawhi Leonard Return Seems Very Unlikely

The San Antonio Spurs desperately need Kawhi Leonard if they want to even compete in the same stratosphere with the Golden State Warriors.

Unfortunately, a return does not seem imminent.

According to reports, Leonard’s “people” would need to call Head Coach Gregg Popovich to say that the All-Star forward is interested in returning to the Spurs, but the scenario seems extremely unlikely.

“I’m sure it’s been difficult [for Leonard], but it’s been difficult for us,” Pau Gasol said. “You got to bring heart. You have to bring grit and desire. You got to make more shots. … You got to bring competitiveness and edge for us to be there every single play against a team like the Warriors, or you’ll have no shot.”

Leonard is currently in New York, still rehabbing his quadricep injury. He will be in line for a five-year, $219-million extension this summer, but at this point a trade seems imminent.
