Charlotte Hornets Hire Spurs Assistant as Next Head Coach

It’s starting to seem like every San Antonio Spurs assistant coach has received a head coaching interview one way or another this offseason.

That being said, another member of the Gregg Popovich Tree is branching out and taking charge of his own roster. On Thursday afternoon, it was announced that James Borrego has been officially named the new head coach of the Charlotte Hornets. Borrego has previously acted as an interim head coach for the Orlando Magic.

Under former head coach Steve Clifford, the Hornets went 36-46 last season, just a year after qualifying for the Eastern Conference playoffs. Inconsistency and poor personnel decision has continued to plague the Hornets over their franchise’s history and the hope is that with the hiring of Mitch Kupchak and Borrego, order will be restored.

Now what’s left is to upgrade the roster.
