LeBron James’ Buzzer Beater Pushes Raptors to Brink of Elimination
They showed fight, they showed heart, and they showed passion.
At the end, none of it mattered as LeBron James went north to south in the dying seconds of Game 3, throwing up a miracle buzzer beater to send the Toronto Raptors to the brink of elimination. With DeMar DeRozan on the bench for the entire fourth quarter, the Raptors stormed back to tie the game on an incredible three-pointer from rookie O.G. Anunoby – shortly after, it was all over.
With a 105-103 victory, the Cavs have gone up 3-0 in the Conference Semifinals.
“It was extremely hard,” said DeRozan following Toronto’s loss. “Extremely hard. I never want to be over there watching, especially the competitor I am. I just want to be out there helping my team way more than anything. So it definitely sucks to be watching.”
DeRozan struggled in game 3, only putting up eight points on 3-for-12 shooting. Meanwhile Kyle Lowry put up a team-high 27-points and dished out seven assists. Jonas Valanciunas finished with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Anunoby dropped 18-points of his own. None of that came close to the night that LeBron had as the superstar finished his night with 38-points, six-rebounds, and seven assists.
“Our goal in the timeout was to trap him and make someone else beat us,” Raptors coach Dwane Casey spoke on the last play of the game. “He split the trap and went 100 miles an hour down the floor and lost them. We just didn’t execute. It was probably my fault that I didn’t make it clear that we wanted to trap him and get the ball out of his hands. We had it started in the backcourt, and for whatever reason, we let him out of the trap.”
The Raptors now continue to fight for their pride. After a year of changing everything just to find a way to beat James in the playoffs, they will try to salvage at least one game.
