Rumours Swirling Around James, Durant, Leonard
In this era of Warriors dominance, the only way past Golden State seems to be to build a superteam of your own. According to recent rumours around the league, that may be just what is happening.
Presumably, the two stars would team up in Los Angeles, as Leonard has expressed a desire to go there, and the Lakers are reportedly interested in a deal for the former Defensive Player of the Year. Los Angeles is also considered to be among the frontrunners in the Lebron sweepstakes.
According to Yahoo, Kawhi pitched Lebron on his considerable defensive prowess which could alleviate James’ burden. Leonard would presumably be a solid offensive fit with Lebron, as the Spurs star is also an excellent off-ball option, possessing catch-and-shoot ability and a 38% on 3-point attempts.
In an even juicier rumour, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has reported that Lebron has also sent a text message to Kevin Durant about potentially joining the Lakers, forming what would be the most ridiculous superteam yet.
However, Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com denied that such a conversation has taken place. Indeed, Durant doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, as long as Golden State keeps winning.
“I’m planning on staying with the Warriors, and we’ll figure the rest out,” KD told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols in mid-June.
Regardless, the rumours are sure to continue circulating into the free agency period and beyond.
