Support from Past and Present Teammates, Stars Rolls in For DeMar
Always the hardest worker in the room, DeMar DeRozan cemented a legacy that will never be forgotten in Toronto.
On Wednesday, Masai Ujiri and the Toronto Raptors shocked the NBA world by trading their franchise centrepiece for Kawhi Leonard in a mega-deal that set the entire League aflame. While the San Antonio Spurs and Leonard were heading towards an ugly divorce, DeRozan has become the face of Canadian basketball, making a case for the greatest Raptor of all time.
Through thick and thin he continued to stick by this franchise, showing more loyalty than the Raptors deserved at some points. Now, DeRozan is forced to move on, while the Raptors attempt to head into a different direction.
But despite everything, DeRozan has left a lasting impression in Toronto. On the day of the blockbuster move, his loyalty and commitment to the city was commended by teammates, both present and former, as well as by many other big names!
To my brother @demar_derozan I want to say 10 million thank you’s on behalf of YOUR city. You are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had. Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history. I am grateful to have witnessed your combination of skill, persistence, and loyalty from the same seats every night. Thank you for being an incredible captain and an even better friend. To Kawhi…we look forward to a this new chapter and we welcome you to the most intense and supportive city in NBA basketball!!! You have always been a poised clinical warrior and I can’t wait to see how Toronto inspires your fight. Let’s Go Raptors.
