Zhaire Smith Out with Broken Foot
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: A Philadelphia 76ers rookie has gotten injured.
According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the 76ers’ Zhaire Smith suffered a Jones fracture at a developmental camp in Los Vegas on Monday. The team will update Smith’s status after confirming more details. However, according to PhillyVoice‘s Kyle Neubeck, the usual recovery time for such an injury is six to eight weeks, though it could be longer.
Smith, a guard out of Texas Tech, was selected 16th overall in this year’s draft by Phoenix, before being traded to Philadelphia for Mikal Bridges.
If it seems like a 76ers rookie gets hurt before every season, it is because they have. Smith is just the team’s latest first-round pick to go down early in his career, following, Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz.
