Netflix to not Pursue Broadcasting Partnership with NBA, Other Sports
Unlike their rival Amazon, at this point Netflix has no plans to pursue live sports broadcasting.
“I think in terms of live sports there’s nothing we can do differently from a television broadcaster, so it doesn’t add additional value,” said Netflix VP of business development EMEA Maria Ferreras. “You can never say never, but there’s no plans to go into that.”
While Netflix has done documentary programming in the sporting category, partnering up with many big names in the NBA, the media broadcasting giant has other plans in the meantime.
The NBA is currently in the middle of their deal with both ESPN and TNT. The League also has a working relationship with YouTube.
