Former Head Coach Stan Van Gundy to Join ESPN as an Analyst
After years of working on the sideline as head coach, Stan Van Gundy is moving on.
ESPN has reportedly agreed to hire Van Gundy as an analyst. Van Gundy had a similar deal in place with ESPN six years ago, but it fell through due to pressure from then-commissioner David Stern to remain in the NBA. After a successful tenure with the Orlando Magic which included a trip to the NBA Finals, Van Gundy would go onto join the Detroit Pistons, where he was also entrusted with the general manager role.
Not able to deal with joint duties, a string of bad decisions led to an eventual split this offseason between the organization and Van Gundy.
The 59-year old also served a stint coaching the Miami Heat.
Van Gundy’s brother Jeff is a long-time colour commentator for ESPN.
