NBA Opens Basketball Training Facility for Teenagers in Senegal
On Monday, the NBA announced the opening of a new basketball training center in Senegal.
The new facility is the first of its kind in Africa and is part of the league’s initiative to provide more teenagers with exposure to the NBA game. The state of the art facility features two indoor basketball courts, a multidimensional activity center, a weight room, conference rooms, dormitories, and a number of educational facilities. The NBA hopes that this will turn into the primary training location for NBA Academy Africa.
“We are thrilled to open this new world-class venue in Saly for NBA Academy Africa prospects,” said Amadou Gallo Fall, vice president and managing director of NBA Africa. “This facility will provide aspiring players from across the continent with state of the art courts and training equipment, under the tutelage of our NBA coaches and our world-class academic staff.”
The Senegalese youngsters will no hope to follow in the footsteps of Senegal native and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Gorgui Dieng. Dieng would land a $64-million deal with the Wolves in 2016.
