Magic Johnson Admonishes Luke Walton Following Slow Start
The Los Angeles Lakers have a weird roster.
It lacks shooters, it lacks much defense, and it lacks the weapons that can best utilize LeBron James’ greatest strength – his passing ability.
Eight games in, with a brand new roster and very little time to create any sort of chemistry, the Lakers are 3-5 and if it wasn’t for some stints of bad luck, the record would look far better than the Lakers look as a team on the floor. In fact, based on their level of play and lack of cohesiveness, it can almost be said that a 3-5 start is actually impressive.
As always, the scapegoat is the coach and as per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Head Coach Luke Walton received an earful from the men who led the Laker rebuild efforts over the summer. Magic Johnson reportedly admonished Luke Walton, as the young coach’s job security continues to come under question.
“As I was talking to Luke [with Pelinka], we said, ‘Don’t worry about if we get out to a bad start,'” Johnson told reporters in September, back when he preached patience with his coach and new team. “We have seen that with LeBron going to Miami, and we have seen that when he came back to Cleveland. He is going to struggle because there are so many new moving parts. But eventually we are going to get it, and we are going to be a really good team.”
How quickly things change.
