Essential SS 10/11 Trends,

Just as the style of every star player is different on the court, there’s no formulaic fashion trend suited to every man in the world. This spring, get yours right.

Euro Drama
(Bottega Veneta, Etro, Ermenegildo Zegna)

For you long and lean Euro types (think Bargnani, Turkolglu) the strong and vivid yet soft-shouldered Bottega Veneta silhouette is where it’s at this spring, so it’s time to adjust your lapels and loafers accordingly. Off the court, the most stylish players of this breed this season are going to be rocking old-school aviator shades a la Burt Reynolds (sexy 70’s-era Burt Reynolds, that is, not the old guy that makes the occasional movie cameo these days), tons of sumptuous leather bomber coats and slouchy carry-ons in shades ranging from rich chestnut to gunmetal grey. For the sartorially brave, colorful printed button-ups and wildly colored blazers are a definite investment and this look won’t be complete without impeccably grooming, so get out those razors and schedule a visit with your barber a.s.a.p. Time to bring dapper, dashing and dangerous back, boys.

Shopping Notes: exquisite tailoring, aviators, fedoras, soft shoulders, slight fur and leather panelling, driving gloves, colorful prints, leisurely rolled sleeves, slightly pointed loafer.

Classic Collegiate
(Burberry Prorsum, Tods, Paul Smith)

If you don’t have the whole brooding thing going for you and prefer a more classic, accessible look, as one might see on a player like Steve Nash, this spring you’ll want to keep things quilted, neutral and just a wee bit undone. Canvas and rough-cut leather are materials to keep an eye out when shopping, and make sure to look for lots of silks and soft cottons in camel and cream when outfitting yourself in anything from suits to sweaters and slacks. The classic collegiate look hinges on an eye for detail, making perfectly shined dock shoes a la Paul Smith, pressed and tucked shirts and properly yet semi loose fitting pants an absolute must, as well as of course an ease about the man inside the clothes. Remember, they don’t wear you, so now’s the time to book that yachting adventure you’ve always dreamed of or, if that’s just a little bit out of the budget, take some time for yourself at the Yorkville Hyatt Pure spa.

Shopping Notes: super soft jersey cotton, slim-fit pants, canvas bags, luxurious neutrals (think coffee and cream), relaxed textiles, rich colors, tucked and pressed, natural ease.

Elegant Urban
(Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton)

If you’re the Chris Bosh kind of man who can’t live without a little flair and flash when it comes to getting dressed, Dolce & Gabbana definitely has you covered come the days of sunshine and celsius degree temperatures this year. Try distressed, fitted denim with suit jackets that bear razor-sharp lapels and nipped waists for a look that will be accented even more pefectly by designer shades and rich-looking silver and platinum watches and other jewelry. Royal blue, rich hazelnut and, as always, black are the hottest colors for you this spring as per the runways of Paris and Milan, so we would suggest tossing the tropical, graphic vibe that we saw for S/S last year and to remember that, above all else, understated elegance is key when it comes to nailing this look and presenting yourself as the powerful, refined man that we know you can be.

Shopping Notes: expensive yet subtle accoutrement in platinum and silver, laser-cut denim, dramatic lapels, Vuitton luggage, perfect tailoring, black leather embossed loafer.
