Hair styles give away your personality. First impressions are vital when meeting someone for the first time. It’s not only what you’re wearing that plays a role in what people portray you – hair is a big part of the game.
According to body language analyst and security consultant Barry Ettinger, up to 80 per cent of communication is done through your hair and attire. During a media preview of the expansion of AXE’s hair care line last week, Ettinger explained to journalists the importance of having good-looking hair.
“People always think that the face is the most commanding feature when first meeting someone,” says Ettinger. “In reality, studies show that hairstyle can outweigh everything else during that first meeting.”
Women have paved the way for men to get their hair done in salons without feeling embarrassed or out of place. Today, men take a considerable amount of time on their hair, making sure not one strand is out of place – unless they’re going for the messy just-got-out-of-bed look.
When it comes right down to it, almost anything goes for men’s hair trends. From colour to texture, subtle to extreme, most guys aren’t afraid to try something out of the ordinary.
The messy look is very hot. Just ask High School Musical star Zac Efron or Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford. Put a dollop of hair putty or sculpting wax in your hand and style your hair however you want it to look. But don’t cake on too much. You still want your hair to look natural rather than sleek.
For men with longer locks, try a side part, which will extend to the ears and usually hit the collarbone. Many women will find brushing a strand of hair away from your eyes rather sexy.
Another popular look, especially amongst basketball players like Antonio Anderson of the Oklahoma City Thunder or Cleveland Cavaliers’ forward LeBron James and celebrities like David Beckham, is the modern buzz cut. There’s still hair on their head, just not enough for the need to style.
Whether you spike your hair or frost your tips, keep this in mind guys – be bold, be daring, be fearless and try something new.
