Most of us are used to seeing Tobey swinging from buildings as Spiderman. As much as we all loved admiring him in tight, red spandex, he has abandoned his Spidey costume for something a little more comfortable.
The Italian fashion label Prada has carefully selected Tobey Maguire as the new face of their Autumn/ Winter 2011 campaign. Tobey looks like a perfect gentleman in dark Prada suiting and fine, thinly layered sweaters.
Photographer, David Sims captures Tobey as he appears mysteriously dark and pensive, starring out into the daylight from a classic New York City loft. As though still on the set of Spiderman, his expression appears as if he is contemplating a plan of attack on a villain or enemy of the state.
Tobey is undoubtedly happy about his new association with the Prada brand and expressed this to the press: “ A great supporter of the arts, (designer) Miuccia Prada has inspired a culture of creativity that is woven through every aspect of her company, from her collections, her campaigns, to every design detail in her stores,,” Maguire said. “I have such admiration for her artistry and I’m thrilled to be part of Prada’s fall campaign. “
Here Tobey looks dapper in his dark, boxy three-button suit jacket and matching tailored pants. Underneath he sports a double-layered sweater look. The red underlayer has a rounded neckline, reaching to just below his adam’s apple with a light grey V-neck over top. The red portion strikes me as a bit peculiar and kind of seems as through he slapped on a V-neck over his Spiderman costume. Perhaps if this outfit was on someone else, the thought wouldn’t even cross my mind, but in this case it’s all I can think about.
Here Tobey sits with a serious gaze in a mock neck Argyle sweater underneath the same dark suit. The turtleneck diamond sweater makes him look a little older and distinguished. Perhaps this makeover will help prepare him for his character transformation into Nick Carraway. Maguire is rumored to have been selected for this role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead in Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby.
