The Big Apple is the urban jungle, or rather the concrete jungle, where dreams are made of , as Alicia Keys and Jay-Z let it be known—and we fashion-watchers just can’t get enough of seeing the haute-outfitted wildlife during the most stylish week of the year. Models strutting down the runway may make clothes fashionable, but seeing Beyonce wearing them on the street makes them undeniably cool. Here’s the must-know rundown of NYFW with swagger in mind. From ballers to rappers, it’s all about urban fashion.

The award for most appearances goes undoubtedly to Kris Humphries. The newly minted Mr. Kim Kardashian adopted his wife’s love of all things flashy and fashion-y, attending Tommy Hilfiger, Richie Rich, and Simon Spurr to name a few….and even Avril Lavigne’s Abbey Dawn line in support of Kim’s little sister’s first runway strut. Showing up at an Avril Lavigne show? Now that’s a supportive husband if we’ve ever seen one.
While Humphries mostly played the role of arm candy to the Kardashian clan, he looked the role of dapper gentleman, doing so in fitted suits and dress shirts. His wife may outshine him in celebrity, but with some time and continued exposure to couture, we’re predicting a style revolution for the Nets star in the near future…!

LeBron James chose the opposite approach to Humphries: quality over quantity! Spotted at just one show, the superstar attended the Michael Bastian show in the designer’s threads. No, Bastian doesn’t design outrageous wear the likes of Gucci and Versace (think manpris and murses) but beautiful athletic wear we can actually see many of our favorite ballers sporting off the courts.
Looking comfortable and ritzy, sitting front and center, LeBron proved the days of ostentatious sightings of NBA players at fashion week are things of the past. And thank goodness….I don’t think anyone misses seeing Dennis Rodman in a dress.

In her usual goddess ways, Beyonce did not disappoint! B made several appearances, our favorite look being at the Vera Wang show. Her leather bustier and poufy tulle skirt by the designer in a nude color palette was simply drool-worthy. The star stuck to her neutral choices showing up in a shimmering old wrap dress for the J-Crew showcase, accenting her natural glow with sequins. We wouldn’t expect anything less than perfection from this style maven and can only imagine what other beautiful creations she’ll wear as her belly grows.

NBA groupies were in luck this fashion week. Dwayne Wade and Amar’e Stoudemire provided the Richard Chai show with some fresh perspective as they watched front and center. Both men looked classy and dressed to kill in leather and impeccably fit knits. I think I can speak for every girl out there when I say there’s nothing quite like a professional athlete who’s not only handsome, dressed well, but takes a keen interest in fashion as well.
The collection itself was bright, well-tailored and fit for a modern girl in the city. And what better to match an urban girl’s spring/summer ensemble with than not one, but two NBA stars? Sounds like a perfect fit.
The worlds of sport and fashion are more intertwined than ever and it’s exciting to see the collaborations that continue to be produced by like-minded designers and athletes. Stoudemire partnered up with well-known designer Rachael Roy for a collection at Macy’s. The line, which both stars debuted at Fashion’s Night Out, held at the flagship Macy’ store, is an affordable collection of chic casual looks along with edgy outfits for nights out. Practicality, affordability, and one finger on the pulse of the fashion world equals a line that will surely speak to the everyday style of fans everywhere. Sweatpants begone: it’s the era of chic yet chill— we’re not watching our games from the couch but from the runways.
