Canada’s Sweetheart

If Reese Witherspoon is America’s sweetheart actress, then Rachel McAdams is Canada’s very own homegrown sweetheart. Born and raised just outside of Toronto, the blonde haired blue-eyed beauty is certainly giving Witherspoon a run for her money! However, she also manages to stay charmingly low-key and out of the public eye. Known for her down-to-earth personality, McAdams even takes public transportation when on stay in Toronto. Her day-to-day style reflects McAdam’s easy practicality, but when she dons a red carpet dress, all eyes are on her. From girl next door to red carpet siren, let’s take a look at Rachel McAdams style from the streets to star-studded premieres!

Whimsy And Practicality

Rachel’s everyday wear showcases her Canadian sensibilities. It’s cold here, guys, and sometimes you have to ditch the sky-high Louboutins and just rock a pair of jeans and a heavy jacket!

Irresistibly likeable in her realness, McAdams can be spotted wearing items we all have: from jeans and easy tees in the summer to bulky jackets and knitted hats in the winter. She was spotted recently in Toronto wearing blue sweats, a hoodie and a Smyth surplus jacket while riding her bike, and still looked fashionable! When not engaging in physical activities a la biking, McAdams tends towards classically ladylike apparel as well, favoring flared knee-length skirts and belted trenches, often paired with a funkier article such as patterned leggings. Always on the go, she can often be seen leaving airports in comfortable yet pulled-together looks. Polished and low-key with a hint of whimsy is the key to a daytime McAdams look!

Ladylike yet Regal

Where McAdams really shines is on the red carpet. Always giving off an aura of regality, the star pulls off everything from ultra-feminine to clean lines and commanding with an effortless poise.

Recently in Cannes for the premiere of Midnight in Paris, she donned a jaw-dropping red and nude Marchesa gown that exuded sex appeal. The lacy number was delicate and ladylike with just the right amount of skin. Classy and womanly? You bet. She chose another Marchesa gown for the Californian premiere of the movie and rocked a silver embroidered long-sleeve and full length frock. Statuesque and majestic while still being one hundred percent feminine.

When not in va-va-voom attire, McAdams favors simpler cuts while still maintaining her subtle sex appeal. Whether it’s a draped neckline or a low back, there is always one sultry aspect to her outfits. Classy and sexy to a tee!

Beauty Rebel

While her choices as of late have leaned towards more mature silhouettes, McAdams hasn’t lost her spunkiness. Where the actress does take risks is beauty-wise. Known to have a knack for rule-breaking details, she has tried everything from bright pink highlight to electric yellow eyeshadow. A sense of whimsy and flawless style? Consider us smitten.

Get the look

Getting Rachel McAdam’s look for daytime is a flattering option. Her style, non-extreme or too trend setting, translates well onto most women and body types! While she tends to opt towards athletic gear on some days, let’s skip the sweatpants and go right to ladylike. Pair classic pieces such as peter-pan collared blouses and skirts with a longer hemline with unexpected funkier items, such as geometric patterned tees or brightly colored separates.

When glamming up for a night out, wear statement-making to-the-floor gowns that exude confidence and feminine aspects. Look for all-over lace or embroidered materials, body-con shapes and exaggerated shoulders. Beauty-wise, take a risk! Don’t go overboard (or risk looking like Lady Gaga) but choose one playful beauty option, like bold lips or neon eyes, and keep the rest of your make-up classic and simple.

What’s Next?

Fresh from a stellar year that included starring in the critically acclaimed Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris and the blockbuster Sherlock Holmes sequel, McAdams can be seen next in a slew of movies.

First, to the delight of teenage girls everywhere, McAdams stars in the latest Nicholas Sparks film The Vow, the first Sparks film she’s been in since The Notebook. The Vow also stars heartthrobs Zac Efron and Channing Tatum.

McAdams flexes her romantic muscles again in the soon-to-be-released Untitled Terrence Malik Project. Another romantic drama, this one geared for an older audience, which also stars Rachel Wiesz and Ben Affleck.
