Put Your Best Foot Forward

As sunshine and above-freezing temperatures thaw Torontonians, we tuck away our winter boots in favour of something a little lighter. For the spring/summer 2012 shoe season, we’re seeing a lot of texture and a few reinterpretations of previously ladies-only styles. Overall, if you’re a man with a foot, there sure are a lot of options this year.

Sometimes, with too many options, the decision-making process becomes overly complicated. After keeping our feet on 24/7 lockdown over the winter, it’s hard to imagine spring-inspired pairings. Worry not; we’ve got the perfect shoe for everyone and every look this season.

Join us as we say goodbye to frozen toes and wool socks and usher in the best shoe styles for the warm months ahead.

The Loafer

This classic look is making a comeback. Whether you’re an established 40-something or a 20-year-old hipster, chances are you’ll need a pair of loafers to get you through this season in style. Pair them with a neutral trouser and blazer, or with your favourite jeans and a light knit.

We love Ralph Lauren’s Tassled Calfskin Loafers – seen above – but if you’re looking to get a nice loafer on a budget, Aldo has quite a few eye-catching styles this spring. Whether the loafer is your investment shoe of the season or a wallet-friendly wardrobe addition, you’ll find this style incredibly easy to wear.

The Strappy “Man-dal”

That’s a nice looking man sandal. Finally, this strappy footwear got the shot of testosterone it needed and transcended the ladies-only section. We love this look for any spring/summer occasion – at the beach, on the patio, or at the park on a lazy Sunday. Pair it with your favourite cut-offs and a tee or a crisp button-up with cuffed chinos.

This pair by DSquared is somehow very rugged and manly, but if you’re looking for a softer or more affordable option, we found a few great styles at Little Burgandy.

The Light-Soled High Top

White soles are a great way to freshen up your look and we love them on these Dior Homme high tops. Crisp, clean and stylish, wear these leather and canvas sneakers with your favourite skinny jeans and varsity jacket. When the weather heats up, you can pair them with skinnies and a bright tee or button-up. While this pair caught our eye, they aren’t the most affordable option for the masses. If you’re looking for something on the lower-side of the price scale, check out the options at your favourite local sneaker shop – we found too many to name here.

The Woven Leather Lace-Up

This season, we’re loving woven leather. Weather it’s on a shoe, on a bag or on a hat, count us in. This easy-to-wear style by Silvano Sassetti is the perfect wardrobe addition for the business meeting or garden party. At the office, pair them with your navy trousers and an off-white button-up. On the weekend, pair them with your favourite chinos and a polo.

Despite our best efforts, we really couldn’t find an affordable offering to compete with these high-end stunners. If you’re looking to add an investment shoe to your collection, make this the pair.
