1) Auberge Le Saint Gabriel – 426 Rue St. Gabriel, Montreal, Quebec

When it comes to romance, the French do it best! While Paris may be the Mecca of all things romantique, its Canadian counterpart Montreal is certainly up to par! Old Montreal, nestled right by the water and Old Port of the city, is a well-preserved area that showcases Montreal’s vast history.

With cobblestone streets, uniquely tall stone architecture and many original buildings, the area is a throwback in to less hectic days. Auberge Le Saint Gabriel is located in what was the first inn in North America, built way back in the 16th century. With modern additions made to faithfully reflect the original architecture and many original touches still there (stunning stone walls are our favorite part!), the inside exudes nothing less than elegant intimacy. The cuisine also preserves a Quebecois sense of history, keeping renditions of French favorites such as steak tartar and focus on local sources. And, like any good French restaurant, there is an expansive wine list, and in this case, an entire wine cellar present. History, classic French cuisine and modernly-thoughtful food sources make this one restaurant that will make your date say Oh La La!

2) La Tupina – 6 Rue Porte de la Monnaie, Bordeaux, France

While Paris would be the obvious choice for a Top 5 romantic restaurant, we looked a little off the beaten path and went south to Bordeaux for our next choice! A beautiful and historic alternative to the City of Lights, Bordeaux is famous for, of course, its wine, which the region has been producing since the 8th century.

Situated by the water and filled with historic architecture, this city exudes a sense of grandeur perfect for romantic strolls. La Tupina has been called the best bistro in the world and it’s easy to see why. Resembling a country kitchen in the French rural areas, La Tupina (which translates to ‘kettle’) the space has an unpretentious and welcoming charm perfect for couples to crave a comfortable and cozy vibe. Their dishes are just as cozy, and are in the vein of classic French cooking. Try braised lamb shoulder with garlic, duck confit, or lamprey, a fish used often in Bordeaux gastronomic cooking. For dessert? Why pears braised in Bordeaux red wine, of course! Bon appetit!

3) Serafina – 29 East 61st Street, New York City, New York

New York has a new restaurant opening almost every day and the newest and hottest place may be trendy… but it’s the classics that scream romantic.

Located in just below the ritzy Upper East Side lies Serafina, a tucked away Italian restaurant exuding intimacy and friendliness. With its warm lighting, simple white-table clothed tables and dark wood seats, and knowledgeable staff, the atmosphere is always a lively one. You can often spot the owners themselves entertaining their guests at the main table and marveling in Italian over what dishes go best with what wines. Certainly a marvelous setting to entertain your love.

Their Northern Italian cuisine is similarly welcoming, as recipes passed down from families make their way to your table. Handmade gnocchi in their famous tomato sauce? Yes please. Thin-crust pizza made with Scillian ingredients? Don’t mind if we do. Those on a diet, beware: you may be able to pass on the pasta, but the desserts, including a mascarpone raspberry tartlet are to die for.

4) Nobu – One Casino Drive, Paradise Island, Nassau (Inside Atlantis)

Nobu is a celebrity hangout hotspot in Los Angeles, Miami and New York, but the five star sushi restaurant is popular among celebs for a reason — it’s just that good. While the metropolitan locales are too crowded and seen-to-be-seen to be romantic, there is one location that separates itself from the rest: Paradise Island. Located in the sprawling Atlantis resort complex, Nobu manages to create an intimate dining experience and Japanese calming atmosphere all while being in the middle of the Caribbean. Enjoy their signature dishes of squid ink pasta to lemon lobster stir-fry to their delicate and beautiful sushi. The food arrives looking like works of art and tastes even better. You and your love can enjoy a unique situation: authentic Japanese cuisine and a stroll on a tropical beach after. Modern romance indeed!

5) Kudeta – Sands Skypark Level 57, Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore

When the Marina Bay Sands resort complex opened in Singapore, expats, tourists and locals alike were smitten by the unique architecture: three sky-high building connected on top by a pool/restaurant/club. The restaurant, called Kudeta after the famous beach club in Bali, boasts undoubtedly the best view of the city. (The infinity pool on the same level is world renown for the same reason.)

Host to fashion shows (Chanel had their resort wear show their last season) and exclusive parties, the space is nothing short of breath-taking. The Kudeta restaurant is perfect for a glamorous and romantic dinner date and is sure to impress. Their modern Asian cuisine hosts everything from new takes on sashimi and ceviche dishes, and other haute Asian foods such as bamboo roasted black cod. Mouth-watering food, a once in a lifetime view and a glamorous vibe make for a romantic night neither of you will forget.
