Picking out shorts isn’t as simple as snatching up a pair of shorts from the first rack you see at H&M. Don’t be afraid to experiment with some colour.
A lot of men fear summer because of the bright colours, but you don’t have to stick to the classic navy, black or beige shorts.
Try the purple denim shorts from H&M. They’re a great fit when paired with a plain v-neck t-shirt from Zara, for a stylish, yet comfortable look.

This season, it’s all about the corduroy shorts. Some of you may be sceptical about it, but just like plaid, it’s made a comeback! Go shopping, experiment with texture and see what style and fabric you like best.

If corduroy or denim fabrics aren’t really for you, try the Havana Twill Cargo Shorts from Guess. These are a relaxed fit and have the classic cargo pockets that every man has loved for years with a fitted twist. They come in six different colours including bright blue and red, but also come in black and a soft brown for a more classic look.

If you’re aiming for the classic look, what’s more classic than a pair of bermudas? Tommy Hilfiger has a great selection for men’s bermudas in classic styles that add a little flare with pinstripes. Their flat front chinos are also a great way to experiment with colour and are a great buy since they can be worn as casual or dressy bottoms. Their shorts also come in plaid and are ticketed at a very decent price.

Just make sure you remember to get a top that matches. Many men make the same mistake of wearing striped polo’s with plaid shorts. This is a big no no. If your shorts have a design on them, your shirt must not. When in doubt, go for the classic black slim fit tee.
As for belts, they are essential! Not just for fashion purposes, but also to keep those pants at the right part of your waist line. You don’t want to have to keep pulling up your shorts and give off the baggy pants look. Keep it stylish and clean cut. Get yourself a plain black belt that will go with everything.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a summer outfit, keep it dressy/casual and comfortable. Once you’ve got your outfit together, throw on a pair of loafers and you’re ready to go out into the world looking good and keeping cool.
