Summer is the season of many things: it’s the season of longer days and nights, the season of warmer weather, and it’s the season of love. So whether you’re taking your date out for the first time or for the umpteenth time, it’s always fun to switch it up and be creative. You don’t have to go all out and rent a boat or anything –no, we’re not saying that at all. Summer weather can really enhance a date idea and take it up a notch. It’s really all about the idea; keep dates fresh, flirty, and fun.
So while I could suggest taking her out to a new restaurant for dinner, I’m not going to. Instead, I’m going to put a fun summer twist on the more traditional, old school dates. The dates that our parents and grandparents used to go on are summer date-worthy ideas! They kept their dates simple, as summer dates should be. Here are a few retro summer date ideas to keep your summer dates sizzling hot:
1: Drive-in movie
There are so few of these venues out now that provide this service, but they are still out there, and I’d say that that is what makes this date idea so unique.
We’re all used to seeing movies in theatres or just watching it off our laptops and TVs that the mere idea of a drive-in movie sounds a bit farfetched. But most drive-in locations offer a two-for-one deal. They group movies together so you and your date can cuddle up, bring a bunch of snacks, and watch it all in the convenience of your car. It might be an old date idea of seasons’ past, but a little retro date is a cool twist on your average movie date.
2: Amusement park
Dates at amusement parks are usually suggested towards teens and family fun days but she’ll love the idea of having good ol’ fun. Amusement parks (whether a theme park or even just the neighbourhood carnival) are a great way to bond and be silly without any pressure. Did I mention you could impress her by winning her a prize? Or hey, if she’s pretty competitive maybe she’ll even beat you in a game. It’s great flirty fun that reminds us of the carefree days of being a teen in love.
3: (Outdoor) Concerts
Summer is the season of concerts. Whether indoor or outdoor, concerts are an easy way to just hang out without being too talkative. Now, it obviously depends on your musical tastes and whether that’s compatible but if you guys are into the same artist, go out to a concert! Concerts mean that you’re both enjoying your favourite artist all while hanging out with your favourite person, and who wouldn’t enjoy the simplicity of that?
4: The Zoo
Bring back that childhood fun at the zoo! The zoo is a chance for you guys to get all those couple-y pictures in that you may not like but she loves. It’s also a day to just enjoy each other’s company outside while gazing at all the animals. And yes, get ready to hear “aww” throughout your date.
5: Go for a bike ride or a hike
You don’t necessarily need to both be the outdoorsy type, but doing an activity together not only strengthens the relationship, but doing something together out of the ordinary is a new way to learn things about each other.
Whether you’ve been together for days, months, or even years, doing activities outdoors is fun, healthy, and a great way to learn something new. If you live in a beautiful area, go for a hike together and once you reach the final destination, pull out a picnic blanket and enjoy the view, together. It’ll be an accomplishment for both of you and something out of the ordinary.
Summer is the season that dates can be incredibly creative. Whether they’re indoors or mostly outdoors, it’s a refresher for those typical dates. This also gives you a chance to learn a bit more about each other, enjoy one another’s company, and more importantly bask in the sun before winter comes to us again. Dates don’t need to be as complicated as you think women are – if they’re simple and thoughtful then you’ve already won.
Summer dates can be just as flirtatious as when you two first met. For some reason summer seems to bring about an air of youth. Channel this feeling by going out on a few of these creative dates. Summer makes us feel ‘forever young’, so enjoy your summer dates before old man winter comes to rob us of our youth once more.
