The Best New Headphones For Basketball Players

Many athletes love listening to music during their favourite activity—unfortunately, basketball players are often left out, with many new models being tailored to the needs of runners and gym-goers. To help out, we looked around to bring you three brand-new headphones that can help a baller bring their soundtrack with them wherever they go, both on and off the court.

When you’re on the road: Sony MDR-ZX750BN
You may not be flying in a private jet, but all of us can use a little R&R when we’re on our way to a game. Sony’s new MDR-ZX750BN noise-canceling headphones make up for their cumbersome name by giving you privacy in the noisiest of situations—in fact, the active noise canceling mode eliminates up to 98 per cent of ambient noise. The active system will also listen to your surroundings to choose the best of three noise-canceling modes for the situation. They’re also completely wireless and have Bluetooth connectivity, too, meaning you’ll never have to struggle with caught cables and you can take phone calls on the go. The headphone’s frequency response switches from the wireless’ 20-20,000 Hz to 8-22,000 Hz when plugged in with the included cable.

For getting in the zone: Monster iSport Freedom
Sitting in the locker room and gathering your thoughts, you’ll want to turn down the world around you and turn up the bass—enter Monster’s iSport Freedom headphones. They’re made with a gym environment in mind, both in terms of the lightweight and durable design as well as the slight water resistance that can stand up to a dropped weight or a busted water bottle in your bag. Rubberized ear cushions and details make sure they always fit comfortably, while a control pad on the right earcup gives you easy control over your playlist. The iSport headphones are connected via reliable Bluetooth and feature 30 hours of wireless playback (they can be recharged via microUSB), but can also be connected with an included cable.

Out on the court: LG HRM Earphone
If you’re just playing a casual game of hoops, you might want to take your soundtrack with you to both ends of the court. The LG HRM (heart rate monitor) earphone offers a no-slip fit that will keep you in the game, with the added benefits of connecting to LG’s Lifeband Touch fitness band. When used together, the Lifeband will be able to monitor your heart rate, metabolism and blood oxygen levels using measurements taken from your ear and giving you the best feedback possible on your physical performance. They can only be used with a cable, but sport a medallion for playback control.
