Vaunted men’s clothier Barneys NYC has announced that it will be teaming up with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook to create a unique line to be featured in their store. Dubbed “Westbrook XO Barneys” (XO being short for “exclusively ours”), the collection is expected to hit the racks and online mid-July and was announced via Barneys’ Instagram account.
According to Barneys’ website, the XO collection was designed with Westbrooks’ “sharp yet appropriately playful aesthetic” in mind, and contains more than 60 pieces. The guard is well-known as a frontrunner in the NBA’s fashion rankings, often seen pushing the boundaries of style with loud shirts and crazy layering—so loud, in fact, that he’s mentioned in previous interviews that he never wears the same shirt twice, and rarely pulls on the same pair of pants more than once. He’s also not a fan of getting suited up, preferring casual outfits elevated with one or two formal items.
Big labels we’re excited for in the collection include Globe-Trotter, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, Marcelo Burlon County of Milan, Limoland and Del Toro.
It’s worth noting that Selima Optique and Naked & Famous denim are also on board. From the former, we can expect some killer eyewear—which has always been something of a trademark for Westbrook. In fact, he’s been widely credited (or blamed for, depending on your take) as having originated the NBA’s obsession with fashion eyewear and geeky motifs.
As for the latter, the Montreal-based denim brand has long been a favourite of Westbrook and other NBA players. From an earlier interview with BALLnROLL, it appears Naked & Famous founder Brand Svarc loves him back.
Jordan Brand will also be represented in the final lineup by way of Russell Westbrook x Barneys for Nike Jordan. This is not only bodes well apparel-wise, but according to Sneaker Bar Detroit, heralds the release of the woven leather Jordan Shine silhouette which is expected to be exclusive to the collab.
For now, Barneys has been extremely tight-lipped about what the designs themselves will look like. According to the release, the aesthetic will be “sharp yet appropriately playful.” As for a sneak-preview? All we have is a single image, a concept sketch from from Jordan Brand.
However, Barneys has confirmed they will be leaking bits and pieces via their Instagram account before the official launch. In the meantime, Westbrook will be taking over their photo stream from the front lines at Paris Fashion Week.
