J Dilla is and forever will be known as one of the most influential hip-hop artists and producers to have lived, and now two of his production tools will be enshrined at the Smithsonian in the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which is yet to be built. The two items in question are his custom Minimoog Voyager and his Akai Music Production Center 3000 LE, both donated by his mother. The musician worked alongside other legends such as The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, leaving an unmatched legacy. You’ll be able to see the instruments yourself in 2016, when the new museum opens. Until then, listen to this tribute playlist on 8Tracks and relive a better time.
