The beginning of August has been laden with NBA superstars getting hitched, as has been the month of July. Did your invites get lost in the mail? No worries. Here’s a closer look at the star-studded affairs.
The latest NBA player to get hitched just did it in secret yesterday. Dorell Wright of the Portland Trail Blazers was married to Mia Lee, his long-time girlfriend. Roughly half the NBA was in attendance, give or take, including Dwyane Wade and wife Gabrielle Union; Chris and Jada Paul; Damian Lillard; Russell Westbrook and even rapper YG, who performed after the ceremony. So, pretty much the best wedding ever.
In a fairly secretive ceremony (at least, it was until the vows were said and done), Los Angeles Lakers rookie swingman Ryan Kelly got married just over a week ago to Lindsay Cowher, the daughter of former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher. Let’s just say that’s one way to solidify your place in the league. The two had been dating since high school, but it took until Kelly re-upped his contract with the Lakers on July 21 for them to make it official. They quickly absconded to Costa Rica for their honeymoon, according to an Instagram post by Kelly in the days following. He also posted a tear-jerker of a clip.
In mid-July, the Toronto Raptors’ stylish combo guard Landry Fields tied the knot with Elaine Alden—a lingerie, swimsuit and fitness model you may recognize from fashion magazines and whose new personal blog launched today, complete with her new name. Alden knows her man well, and presented him with a custom surfboard as a wedding present—Fields is a surfing nut. It should come in handy on the beaches of Greece, where the two are reportedly honeymooning. Let’s just say they’re probably square considering the rock he got her.
The San Antonio Spurs’ Tony Parker and French journalist Axelle Francine married early August in San Antonio, only a few months after the birth of their son. To give his guests a taste of Texas hospitality, they kicked the pre-wedding reception off at a country dance hall. Naturally, things were a little secretive on their end and few details—let alone photos—were leaked. This marks Parker’s second wedding, after having famously married and divorced actress Eva Longoria. Parker’s nuptials came after he re-signed with the Spurs for $43.3 million—we think we see a pattern here.
