The Biggest Celebrity Collaborations Of Summer 2014

In the worlds of streetwear and fashion, collaborations between two designers are some of the hottest drops around. Bring a big name to the mix—your Kanyes, your Pharrells, your Westbrooks—and you’ve got a winning combination that taps two completely disparate creative forces to make something truly special. This summer in particular, musicians and athletes were on their A-game when it came to launching such new collections, and some certainly outdid others. Here are the collabs so good, you’ll find any excuse to put them back in the rotation when next summer rolls around.

Pharrell Williams x G-Star Raw
What does Pharrell Williams get up to between launching sweet collabs with Adidas and Uniqlo in the spring, and a super luxury handbag collection with Moynat the first day of fall? He puts his creative energy behind a project involving G-Star Raw. His RAW for the Oceans collection included eco-conscious apparel made from bionic yarn, a material created with recycled plastic bottles found floating in the sea. It released late this summer and includes trench coats, T-shirts, jackets, denim and more in prints featuring the capsule’s now-iconic Otto the Octopus logo.

David Beckham x Bellstaff
LeBron James and David Beckham were rumoured to be shopping around for a Major League Soccer team about a year ago, but that’s obviously not the only time you may have heard of soccer and fashion powerhouse David Beckham. Arguably about as famous as King James himself, Becks recently lent his name to British heritage brand Bellstaff for their latest capsule collection. With his direction, Bellstaff dug deep into its James Dean-era archives to produce a truly badass nine-piece line of biker jackets, denim and boots worthy of an A-lister.

Kanye West x A.P.C.
With so much buzz around Kanye West’s highly-anticipated upcoming fall collaboration with Adidas, you may have missed one of the best collections of the summer: A.P.C. Kanye. With price tags at a fairly reasonable level for a designer collection with Yeezy’s name on it, the French brand’s line includes everything from T-shirts and sweaters to parkas and bomber jackets bearing West’s trademark relaxed silhouette and minimal aesthetic.

Chris Bosh x Armstrong & Wilson
Introduced during a New York Fashion Week event, Chris Bosh’s collection of haberdashery was made in collaboration with accessories brand Armstrong & Wilson. Limited to classic neck- and bowties made from premium materials such as wool and tweed, his first batch includes only five of each. Perhaps more so than most celebrities, Bosh was heavily involved in their design and material choices from the start, ensuring that they matched his taste and personality.

Russell Westbrook x Barneys
One of the most-touted collaborations of the last year, let alone summer, was Russell Wesbtrook’s capsule collection created exclusively for Barneys New York. The collection featured a full range of apparel made in collaboration with designers such as Del Toro, Naked & Famous and Jordan Brand. True to his Westbrookian sense of style, they came in elephant prints, elongated silhouettes and bright colours.
