The Toronto Raptors have gone from relative unknowns to sure-fire playoff contenders in the span of a year. To salute their evolution, the team has announced a new primary logo featuring a circular shield with a ball torn by claw marks. “Last year during the playoffs, ‘We The North’ became a rallying cry for this team, and all our fans,” said Raptors President and General Manager Masai Ujiri in a press release. “Or new logo represents that attitude and will be an important part of our identity starting next season.” The new branding rids the logo of the franchise’s iconic, dribbling Cretaceous predator, replacing with a red, black, white and silver shield. An alternate version exists in black and gold. Both logos will make their debut in time for the 2015-16 season, as well as the 2016 NBA All-Star Games that will be hosted by Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. The Raps have the creatives at Sid Lee to thank for their new crest.
