Now You Can Get in Shape like your Favourite Ballers
In a world with an ever-growing number of health and fitness smartphone applications, the NBA has jumped into the game by releasing their own app, NBA Fit. In a partnership with Under Armour, the NBA’s newest software provides users with tips and advice from NBA and WNBA stars, along with strength and conditioning coaches, on how to stay in shape.
The app is easy to navigate and provides a social media hub of articles, photos, and videos on things like nutrition, sleep and wellness, and training. It also allows users to follow their favourite celebrities’ workouts like that of professional wrestler-turned movie star, The Rock, or professional surfer, Brianna Cope. Users can also add their friends to the app and compete in challenges. For instance, the app’s newest challenge, NBA This Is Why We Play Challenge, asks users to complete 70 fitness activities of at least 30 minutes in length before November 1.
In terms of actually tracking progress, users will have to download the additional UA Record app for that. The UA Record app features a similar layout to NBA Fit and allows users to track their workouts, weight, sleep patterns, and meals.
The partnership with Under Armour is interesting, but perhaps not all that surprising, given how much the Baltimore, Maryland based sports company has grown in recent years, thanks in large part to a sponsorship deal with two-time reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Steph Curry. Whether this leads to more deals between the two companies, we’ll have to wait and see.
If you are interested in downloading the NBA Fit and UA Record apps, you can find them for free in the ITunes AppStore or on Google Play.
