Kings Looking into Barnes’ Nightclub Incident
After falling short on Sunday night against the Knicks, Matt Barnes decided to take his mind off yet another Sacramento Kings loss by going out to a nightclub with a few teammates.
Safe to say that did not go according to plan either as the 36-year old journey man irritant got into a bit of a scrum with three people, assaulting two of them and choking a woman at a New York City nightclub.
According to his attorney, Barnes is cooperating with the NYPD and pleads his innocence, later going onto his personal Instagram account and stating that “There’s always two sides to a story. The side the media consistently tries to paint of me … and what actually happened! Don’t believe everything you read.”
This is not the first time Barnes has had a run in with the law. He has been the most fined player in the league since the 2012-13 season and has been suspended twice just last season alone.
Unfortunately for the Kings, star big man, DeMarcus Cousins was at the same night club and although the story is still very much unclear, he may have had some sort of involvement as well. With the Kings not playing again until Wednesday when they meet Dallas, there is no need for a rash decision, but until then, the Kings released a statement of their own:” We have clear standards of conduct and behaviour expected of the Kings Organization – on and off the court. We are working with all parties involved to gather information in order to take any appropriate next steps”.
