False Alarm, Crisis Averted

Bennett Not Cut, Crisis Averted

Early Reports False, Bennett Still With Fenerbahce

After conflicting early reports suggesting that former 2013 first overall pick Anthony Bennett was cut by Fenerbahce in favour of former Atlanta Hawk big man Pero Antic, Sportsnet has learned via Canada Basketball that Bennett is still in fact on the¬†Turkish club’s roster.

Bennett signed with the team in January after getting waived by the Brooklyn Nets and has since averaged 1.3-points and 1.0-rebounds per game with his new squad.

According to the memo received from Canada Basketball, Fenerbahce can dress no more than six foreign players in domestic playoffs, and opted to turn to the players who were on their roster since the start of the season. This means that Bennett will able to play in the EuroLeague Final Four, but was consequently left off the Turkish-league playoff roster.

I guess you got to take the good with the bad, but at the end of the day, it seems like the major crisis for Bennett has been averted. Rejoice EuroLeague fans, there will be some minutes allocated to this Canadian stud.
