Danilo Galinari Injured After Throwing Punches in Euro-Game
With the excitement of free agent now behind us, we have entered the NBA’s quiet period. Players are getting in shape for next season, the Drew League is in full effect, but again, on the NBA front – everything is quiet for the most part.
Well, new Los Angeles Clippers stretch-four Danilo Galinari refuses to keep things too quiet on the NBA front and punched his ticket into the NBA news circles – literally.
While playing a European exhibition game in his home country of Italy, a fight broke out on the floor and Galinari decided to throw some ‘Jon Jones’ style jabs. Unfortunately for the 28-year old, he hurt his right thumb in the process and will miss the entire Eurobasket tournament for Italy. Luckily for the Clippers, Galinari will not require surgery and should make a full recovery by the start of training camp in September. The initial diagnosis calls for a month of rest and rehabilitation.
If you have ever wondered why there is something called “hold me back” in sports, this is a prime example. Thankfully for the Clippers, the team received an entire roster in return for Chris Paul from the Houston Rockets in the case that Galinari will need some more time.
Galinari signed a three-year, $65-million deal with the Clippers earlier in July, moving to the Los Angeles franchise in a sign-and-trade agreement.
