Cavaliers, Celtics Scrambling in Effort to Rework Failed Blockbuster Trade
As the initial Boston Celtics-Cleveland Cavaliers trade fell through due to Isaiah Thomas’ failed physical, both teams are quickly searching for ways to rework the August blockbuster.
Kyrie Irving seemed to be all but done with Cleveland up until Thomas’ injury history was brought up. According to reports, the Cavs are now pushing the Celtics to include either Jaylen Brown or 2017 first round pick, Jayson Tatum to complete the deal.
“Now, Cleveland is going to try to inquire about a couple of the Celtics’ young players, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, who they tried to get in the original trade, that is very unlikely,” Said Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. “But Boston still has a war chest of future first-round picks of their own, and some picks they control from other teams, and Cleveland is going to try to get one more of those to finalize this deal.”
While other rumours report that the Celtics are too trying to rip off the Cavaliers in a new deal, Wojnarowski adds that “Boston believes that it was completely transparent with Cleveland about where Thomas was physically, his rehab.Cleveland’s version of this is that they didn’t realize how long Thomas could potentially be out this season.”
What seemed to be a case of the NBA saving their biggest move of the offseason for last is now under jeopardy of not even happening.
