The Not-So-Friendly Giant

Duncan's New Hobby

Tim Duncan is Taking up MMA – and He is Kicking Ass

On the floor, Tim Duncan was quiet, emotionless, even stoic.

You could never break him, force him to smile, for the greatest power forward the game has ever seen to show some personality. the San Antonio Spurs great was a silent assassin.

And to this day, Duncan is still kicking ass – in MMA.

You read that right!

Tim Duncan will never stop being active as ‘The Big Fundamental’ decided to take up a new hobby – mixed martial arts. And for a person as mild-mannered and quiet as Duncan, his coach Jason Echols says, he is a monster.

“He’s an animal,” Echols told Bleacher Report. “It’s a different thing than what you see out on the court. The more intense the training gets, the more calm he becomes, which you’ve seen on the court. The way he executes the movements, he’s a f–king monster.”

Whether or not Duncan can be a legit competitor in the MMA world, well it is safe to say that Echols believes in his prodigy.

“He would be a legit competitor. For sure,” the trainer said. “He has a desire to learn and compete. He has the heart for it. He most definitely would be a competitor. I would highly encourage him not to. Being a retired Spurs player, I wouldn’t want him going out there and getting punched and kicked by some of those guys, but Tim would be a competitor.”

Since Day 1 of training, the passion was there from Duncan who seems to be enjoying a very active retirement.

“When he walked in the door, I could see that he was very hungry to learn martial arts, and his movement, his absorption of the martial arts was just phenomenal. You could really see the athleticism that existed in him already.”

Now, if only Duncan had these MMA skills back when he had his run-ins with former NBA referee Joey Crawford.
