Raptors Centre Jonas Valanciunas Day-to-Day with Sprained Ankle
The 2-0 Toronto Raptors have experienced their first bit of bad news and it’s coming right as they are set to kick off a six-game road trip on Monday night.
As the Raptors prepare to take on the San Antonio Spurs tonight, their starting centre, Jonas Valanciunas will be inactive for the contest and is listed as day-to-day with a sprained left ankle. The Lithuanian big man injured his ankle after coming down on Dario Saric’s foot in the second quarter of Saturday’s 128-94 blowout victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Lucas Nogueira replaced Valanciunas in the second half and finished with 10-points and nine boards, making a strong case to start in the injured centre’s place. Second-year player Jakob Poeltl should expect an increase in playing time while coming off the bench.
Valanciunas will be monitored over the next few days and a more definite timeline should be out soon.
Through two games, Valanciunas is averaging 14.0-points, and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52.4% from the field.
