All-Star Victor Oladipo, Mavs’ Smith to Headline Loaded Slam Dunk Stage
Although it has not been officially announced by the NBA, it is all but certain that Dallas Mavericks rookie Dennis Smith Jr., Los Angeles Lakers forward Larry Nance, Slam Dunk Contest veteran Aaron Gordon, and All-Star Victor Oladipo will share All-Star Saturday Night’s center stage at the 2018 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
Aaron Gordon is back yet again for a third straight year, albeit coming just short his past couple of tries, while Oladipo returns for his second Slam Dunk Contest. Meanwhile, both the explosive and young Larry Nance and Dennis Smith Jr. will make their tournament debuts.
This year’s contest should be one of the more exciting ones in recent memory with some of the more electrifying and athletic dunkers in the league entering the contestant field. So if you are not excited just yet, maybe this will change your minds real quick!
Here are some jaw-dropping highlights from this year’s contestants!
Dennis Smith Jr.
You talk about dunking with Russell Westbrook or Derrick Rose-like authority, you think of Dennis Smith Jr. The elevation and explosiveness behind Smith’s dunks are simply, for the lack of a better word – hype!
After nearly ending Brook Lopez’ career last year, Larry Nance decided to go after the biggest fish in the NBA and came away with a potential dunk of the year nominee.
The name that may be the most underrated in this Dunk Contest field is ironically the name of a player who will play in the All-Star Game on Sunday night. Victor Oladipo will be back this All-Star Weekend after a brief Slam Dunk contest hiatus!
After putting on an absolute show with Zach LaVine two years ago, the experience Aaron Gordon has a chance to break through and finally take the Slam Dunk crown home to Orlando.
