Big Thursday Deadline Highlighted by Array of Cleveland Cavalier Trades
Hold onto your horses because this deadline was crazy!
Stars on the move, role players changing side, and a handful of shocking trades summed up the past couple of days from around the NBA. When rumours suggested a quiet deadline due to the overwhelming seller’s market, it was believed that most NBA teams would stand pat, looking to avoid taking on anymore money.
Well, on Thursday primarily, general managers found some loopholes, putting together some of the more unexpected and cunning trades!
- Pistons Acquire PG Jameer Nelson
In Reggie Jackson’s absence, Detroit Pistons add point guard Jameer Nelson. Chicago Bulls receive Willie Reed who will be waived. Both teams also swapped 2022 second-round picks.
- Wizards Clear Up Space
Atlanta Hawks take Sheldon Mac who they will immediately waive, send Wizards a protected second-
round pick and cash.
- Heat, Hawks Swap Role Players
Miami Heat acquires Luke Babbitt and send Okaro White to the Atlanta Hawks.
- Ennis Done in Memphis
Memphis Grizzlies send athletic wing Ennis to Detroit for Brice Johnson and second-round pick.
- Raps Make Minor Adjustment
Toronto send Mr. “Two Years Away from Being Two Years Away” to the Sacramento Kings for 2016 first-round pick Malachi Richardson.
- Bulls Add Project
Noah Vonleh failed to meet expectations in Portland and was traded earlier today to the Chicago Bulls for the draft rights of Milovan Rakovic.
- Pelicans, Nets Swap Players
New Orleans Pelicans acquire Rashad Vaughn from the Brooklyn Nets for the services of forward Dante Cunningham.
- Cavs Shock the NBA World Part 1
After just 15-games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Cavs decided to move former All-Star Isaiah Thomas along with Channing Frye and a 2018 top-3 protected first-round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance.
- Cavs Shock the NBA World Part 2
Cavs continue to clear house, moving Iman Shumpert, Derrick Rose (who will be waived), and Jae Crowder in a three-team deal. The Cavaliers received point guard George Hill and shooter Rodney Hood, the Sacramento Kings received Joe Johnson (who is expected to be waived), Iman Shumpert, and Miami’s 2020 second-round pick, while the Jazz received Jae Crowder and Rose.
- Cavs Shock the NBA World Part 3
Cavaliers send Dwyane Wade back to his first home, receiving Miami’s 2020 heavily-protected second round pick. The Cavs flipped the second-round pick in the three-team deal with the Kings and Jazz.
Cue the D-Wade homecoming!
- Knicks Acquire Mudiay in Three-Team Deal
A day after trading Willy Hernangomez, the Knicks acquired point guard Emmanuel Mudiay and a future second-round pick, sending Doug McDermott to the Dallas Mavericks, and a 2018 second-round pick to the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets will acquire veteran combo-guard Devin Harris from the Mavs.
