Conflicting Reports on Kawhi Leonard’s Future in Toronto Continue to Arise
At this point, who really knows what Kawhi Leonard wants?
With various reporters claiming that his upcoming season in Toronto is nothing more than a pit-stop for the former Finals MVP, there have risen just as many reports which affirm that the Toronto Raptors still have a chance to extend Leonard come the 2019 free agency period. What we do know for certain, is that Leonard has not once spoke publicaly on where he wants to be long-term – nor does he owe us that pleasantry.
But what that means is, the Raptors have a chance to holding onto Leonard and despite reports from a number of NBA reporters, Leonard’s departure for one of the two Los Angeles teams is by no means a foregone conclusion.
In fact, Jabari Young, a beat reporter for the San Antonio Express has been known to being one of the closest reporters to Leonard during the former Defensive Player of the Year’s time down in Texas. When asked if he believes that the Raptors have a chance to keep Leonard long-term, Young gave Raptor fans the answers they are desperately looking for.
“Based off of me talking to people within his circle, they’re going to go into this thing with an open mind and give this thing every last opportunity to work,” said Young on TSN. “And at the end of the day, if that’s the case, it would be great if he stays. Obviously, I think part of his mind, yes, let’s keep it real: I think he still feels like L.A. might be the destination, but the same time, he plans to go into this thing with an open mind, giving it every single shot in the world to make it work.”
It may be time to just move on from the subject and play the waiting game.
