Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Jason Kidd Among the 2018 Hall of Fame Class
“It’s a real honor to go in with all of you guys.”
An emotional Steve Nash spoke at his Hall of Fame enshrinement – a class in which he was accompanied by the likes of Ray Allen, Jason Kidd, and Maurice Cheeks.
“I was never even supposed to be here,” said Nash, the back-to-back NBA MVP awards. “Play the long game. You don’t have to be the chosen one. If you’re patient, the plateaus will become springboards.”
It was an incredible and emotional night, filled with both laughter and tears. Lefty Driesell, Dino Radja, Rick Welts, Charlie Scott, Mae Washington, Grant Hill, Katie Smith, Tine Thompson, and Rod Thorn all received their Hall of Fame call.
Thompson was the first ever draft pick in the WNBA, while Welts had the honour of being the NBA’s first openly gay executive. Meanwhile Scott, was the first African-American to receive and athletic scholarship from the University of North Carolina.
“Duke and a short speech is an oxymoron,” said Scott, “I am very proud to be standing here as a black man that took a path that wasn’t easy, but was the right path to take.”
An amazing night celebrating basketball, the 2018 Hall of Fame class will not forget the date September 7 for a long time!
