Leonard “Doing Great”, Toronto Raptors not Worried About Superstar’s Health
With his injury behind him, Kawhi Leonard is ready to begin his career with the Toronto Raptors on the right foot – pun intended.
The Toronto Raptors do not seem to be at all worried about Leonard’s recovery status with the preseason quickly approaching. In fact, Phil Handy, the new assistant coach of the team appeared on the Toronto Talk Sports podcast to provide an update on Leonard’s progress during offseason workouts with the team.
“He’s doing great,” Handy said. “He’s in great shape. Body looks good, he’s feeling good, he’s moving well. I don’t anticipate any issues or any problems. He’s working hard and he’s a hard worker.”
Leonard, who sat out for most of last season recovering from a quad injury, underwent an ugly divorce with his former team the San Antonio Spurs. He was traded to the Raptors a month ago in a blockbuster that saw DeMar DeRozan being sent the other way.
“He’s a gamer man,” said Handy. “He is a gamer. Players like that just want to compete. … However (his situation with the San Antonio Spurs) played out, however it happened, he’s just looking forward to what’s next and what’s in front of him right now and (putting) his best foot forward for the Raptors organization this season.”
The Raptors are set to open up their preseason against the Portland Trailblazers on September 29.
