Trevor Ariza Traded to Washington, Oubre, Rivers Sent to Phoenix
After some interesting confusion surrounding MarShon and Dillon Brooks, things were cleared up on Saturday.
Originally meant to be a three-team deal, the Memphis Grizzlies believed MarShon was the ask from the Phoenix Suns when it was actually Dillon . After the deal subsequently fell through, it was the Suns who revived the trade. With the Los Angeles Lakers now out of the running for Trevor Ariza’s services, the Washington Wizards decided to make a move in an attempt to save their eroding locker room.
The Wizards shipped Kelly Oubre and Austin Rivers to the Suns in return for Ariza who signed a one-year, $15-million deal with the Suns over the offseason. Ariza became eligible to be traded as of Saturday. Oubre is in the final year of his contract and the Wizards were not expecting to have the economic flexibility to re-sign the pending restricted free agent.
The 5-24 Suns are in the midst of yet another rough season, whereas the Wizards have had a disappointing season.
