After Buyout from Suns, Grizzlies Expected to Sign Austin Rivers
The Phoenix Suns are trying to right the ship fast.
They traded away Trevor Ariza and acquired both Kelly Oubre and Austin Rivers. Shortly after, they decided to buyout the former Duke guard, making him a free agent. Rivers is earning $12.6 million in the final year of his deal which he originally signed as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers.
After averaging 15 points a night last season, Rivers’ numbers have declined. He has averaged 7.2 points per game as a member of the Grizzlies. A streaky shooter who lacks the size to play the two nor the playmaking ability to play the one, Rivers’ best role at this point would be a nice scorer to have coming off the bench.
According to reports it is now becoming very possible that the Memphis Grizzlies will sign the guard. Four other teams are apparently interested in Rivers’ services.
