Utah Jazz Rising Star Donovan Mitchell Releases First Signature Shoe
The Rookie of the Year runner-up is making big moves off the court.
On Thursday, Donovan Mitchell officially debuted his first signature shoe the Adidas D.O.N. Issue #1. The acronym for those interested comes from his “Determination Over Negativity” motto.
“My message with this shoe is that it’s for kids … who believe that they can do anything,” Says the Utah Jazz star. “I want my story to be told as such — this was so unexpected for me. You know, it’s only my second year in the NBA, to now have a shoe … I want to help inspire kids so they feel like they can do anything.”
Mitchell becomes the 18th player in the league with his own signature shoe. Both Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and Kawhi Leonard of the Toronto Raptors are expected to launch their own signature shoe at some point over the next year with NIKE and New Balance respectively.
Adidas has begun focusing more so on star potential over market size as they look to continue to build their popularity amongst NBA and basketball fans. The young star is in the midst of his second NBA season and is currently averaging 20.2 points per game, albeit on 40.7% shooting from the field.
